Second half goals from Niall McArdle and Paul Murphy (both pictured left) give the Irish a massive boost in their quest for qualification to the UEFA Championship finals in Ukraine next summer.

The Irish U19 team are currently in Malta preparing for the UEFA Championship, first qualifying phase, group 4 which includes France, Liechtenstein and Malta. The Irish kick-off proceedings on tomorrow (Friday) morning as they face hosts, Malta on the artificial surface in Ta' Qali. The top two teams will ensure their progress to the UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase which takes place early next year.

The squad of 15 players and three member of the management team that took on Iraq in Baghdad under the most unique of circumstances in 1986 were guests of the Football Association of Ireland. |

| Susan Ronan's Republic of Ireland women's under 19 side have been drawn with Russia, Slovakia and European superpower, Germany, in the elite qualifying phase of the UEFA Championships which will take place in Germany from 23-28 April. With only one team qualifying for next year's finals, the Girls in Green will have to overcome a German side who have won the competition twice in three years.
